Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Attend World Climate Action Summit in Dubai
New Delhi, November 26, 2023 - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted an invitation from Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, to participate in the World Climate Action Summit in Dubai. The Summit is a key component of the 28th Conference of Parties (COP-28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), presided over by the UAE, taking place from November 28 to December 12, 2023.
Prime Minister Modi's attendance at the World Climate Action Summit underscores India's commitment to addressing the global challenge of climate change. Following the announcement of five specific targets, titled "Panchamrit," during COP-26 in Glasgow, and the introduction of Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE), India has positioned itself as a significant contributor to climate action. The COP-28 provides a strategic platform to build on these initiatives and advance the global discourse on environmental sustainability.
India's G20 Presidency has prioritized climate change, leading to substantial outcomes captured in the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration and other achievements. Prime Minister Modi's participation in COP-28 aims to further propel these successes and foster collective action towards combating climate change.
In addition to his participation in the Summit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to engage in bilateral meetings with key leaders attending the event. This diplomatic outreach will serve to strengthen international collaboration and reinforce India's commitment to global climate initiatives.
The visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dubai for the World Climate Action Summit marks a pivotal moment in India's continued efforts to champion environmental sustainability and contribute meaningfully to the global fight against climate change.
