Indian Minister of Environment in Riyadh to participate in the Middle East Green Initiative Summit

Indian Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, reached Riyadh to participate in the Middle East Green Initiative Summit, which Saudi Arabia calls between 23 – 25 October 2021. Speaking on occasion, he stated that it is now or never for concrete global actions to address climate change. Stage of development, per capita income, historical responsibility, equity and CBDR-RC are paramount in any collective global action. He also underlined that green policies in India are seen in the context of sustainable development and inclusive economic growth. The govt endeavours to address all the three dimensions of sustainable development - social, economic and environmental.

Indian minister highlighted steps taken by India to combat climate change and the need to consider the stage of development, historical responsibility, equity, national circumstances and priorities, common but differentiated responsibilities, and respective capacities (CBDR-RC) to address the challenges of climate change.

On the sideline of the meeting, he interacted with members of the Indian community in Riyadh on various community-related matters and spoke about various labor reforms undertaken by the Government of India.
